Winter Family Portraits | Full-time RVers Become Idaho Residents

Winter family portraits are quickly becoming one of my favorite things to photograph.  And with this particular family, I couldn’t help but have fun.

Kathleen and I met on Instagram around the spring of 2018.  She and her husband, Bob, had been traveling the country full-time in their RV for two years.  So of course, we hit it off right away.  Some of you may not know that my husband and I did the same thing with our two dogs.  Only difference was, Kathleen and Bob did it with their dog, cat, AND two children!

Both of our families had become full-time RVers in the first place so that we could travel the country in search of a place to call home.  Both of our families landed in Sandpoint, Idaho.  How crazy is that?!

So, Kathleen finds me on Instagram and we get connected.  We’ve spent the last several months getting to know Kathleen and Bob, and have become good friends.  And when I had the opportunity to photograph their family, I couldn’t wait to capture them in the beautiful white winters we have here in North Idaho.

Dressing for a winter session can be so much fun! You pretty much can’t go wrong, and Kathleen and the family did not disappoint.  With a chilly, early morning family session, layers are definitely required.  Hats, gloves, scarves, vests, heavy jackets, boots, you name it.  It’s the perfect recipe for gorgeous winter family portraits.

It’s always so rewarding to create a fun family portrait experience for friends.  The comfort level is there immediately, and there’s rarely any awkwardness being in front of the camera.  I love it!  And because there are little to no awkward moments, I’m able to capture more natural, candid shots throughout the family session.  That’s why, when you first arrive to your family session, I take the time to chat and get to know you.  I want to feel more like your friend than just someone who’s behind a camera.
