Waterfront Family Vacation | Lake Pend Oreille, Bottle Bay Sagle, Idaho
Have a family vacation you’re planning near Sandpoint and want an epic waterfront location? This Airbnb in Sagle, Idaho is it! I had the pleasure of spending time with an amazing family capturing family photos for 17 people, including grandparents, parents and children. It was so much fun, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather.
Waterfront family sessions can be really tricky! When planning, I always make sure to look up the property on Google Maps to see what direction it’s facing. This is crucial as a natural light photographer who has a very specific shooting style. I always try to schedule my family sessions within the last hour or two of daylight. That way, by the time we get to the end of our time together, the sun is setting over the mountains, and it can make for some really amazing sunset images for my families.
Light bouncing off of the water can be really harsh. So I started this family out in the shade. Thankfully, this particular property had the perfect little area for us to work in while we waited on the sun to set a bit more.
Working with large family groups is always a fun challenge. Kiddos may not always be in a splendid mood, and that’s okay! No family session, no matter how big or small, goes off without big emotions being on display. I know most everyone envisions a perfect family photo with everyone smiling and looking at the camera. But sometimes (almost all the time), that’s just not reality. However, it’s my job to make magic even if things aren’t “picture perfect.” As you’ll see, we had some big emotions to contend with, but the family was amazing and just accepted it for what it was, and we rolled right along.
